The national train operator, SNCF, reported multiple acts of sabotage, including arson, targeting its infrastructure. These malicious acts caused widespread damage to the network, particularly affecting the Atlantic, northern, and eastern lines.
The scale of the attacks is significant, with SNCF describing it as a massive effort to paralyze the TGV network. As a result, numerous train routes have been canceled, causing major disruptions for passengers. The operator urged travelers to avoid train stations and postpone their journeys.
Authorities are treating the incidents as acts of sabotage and have launched investigations into the perpetrators. The attacks come just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, adding to the security challenges facing the country.
Interview with an attendee, “We arrived around 7:00 am but were informed we might be stranded until Monday,” said one attendee who planned to travel to Bretagne. “We anticipated some chaos with the evening’s opening ceremony, but this is beyond our expectations,” they added.
Paris was ready for a big party. The Olympics were about to start with a huge show on the river. Many important people and 300,000 others were coming to watch. But there was a big problem. Someone tried to stop the trains from working. This happened just as Paris was trying to be very safe because of the Olympics.
