JAMB Sets Age Bar: Only 16-Year-Olds Apply

JAMB is worried that many people lie about their age on their NIN slips while trying to get into university. They say this is wrong and dangerous.

Because of this problem, JAMB has said that only people who will be at least sixteen years old when they start university can apply.

JAMB has announced that it will strictly enforce the minimum age of sixteen for university admission starting from the 2025 academic session. This decision was made after discovering that some institutions are helping candidates to lie about their age and use other people’s certificates to gain admission. This illegal practice allows fake students to participate in the NYSC scheme.

The decision was made following the discovery of widespread fraud, where institutions assisted candidates in backdating their entry years and adjusting their ages to match those of genuine students with similar names. This allowed fake candidates to secure admission and even participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

By enforcing a stricter age requirement, JAMB aims to curb this fraudulent practice and ensure that only qualified and eligible candidates are admitted into tertiary institutions.
