Dr. Mary Idele-Alile, the National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), unveiled a significant educational initiative on Monday, offering a three-year scholarship program for 3,700 girls across Nigeria. This initiative aims to support underprivileged girls in their educational journey, reflecting Idele-Alile’s commitment to giving back to society.
The scholarships, announced in Abuja by her media office, are a collaboration with Heart Bible University and Seminary in the United States. The program will provide financial support for girls from each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), enabling them to pursue undergraduate studies in fields such as IT Support, Project Management, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Cyber Security, UX Design, Counselling, and Psychology.
Dr. Idele-Alile explained, “These scholarships are designed to empower young women with the skills needed for today’s job market. By supporting their education in key areas, we hope to create more opportunities and drive positive change.”
Candidates for the scholarships must be between 18 and 30 years old and hold at least six credits in GCE O-Level or NECO. While the primary focus is on female applicants, a limited number of slots are available for males within the same age group.
This scholarship program is part of a broader effort by the APC to enhance educational opportunities and support for young people in Nigeria. Similar initiatives by other organizations and government bodies have included vocational training programs, digital literacy courses, and higher education scholarships, all aimed at fostering youth development and bridging educational gaps.
In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on educational support for underprivileged youth, with various programs targeting different fields of study and career development. These efforts are crucial in addressing educational disparities and providing young Nigerians with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive global environment.
