The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Demola Akinloye, the eldest son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye. The killing occurred on Monday along Chevron Drive in the Lekki area of Lagos, creating widespread fear and causing the community to become deserted.
Residents received a notice from a local estate management advising them to avoid Chevron Drive, Agungi, and Ajiran for safety reasons. The notice detailed that Demola Akinloye, the son of the local king, was assassinated near Ebeano Supermarket on Chevron Drive.
Bukunmi Folahanmi, a local resident, expressed her concerns about the incident, stating she would be avoiding work in the area until the situation stabilizes, despite increased security presence.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the assassination occurred around 12:30 pm. Demola Akinloye, 50, was attacked while driving his black Toyota Corolla near Bourdillon Court Estate. Four armed men in a white minibus shot and stabbed him. A spent cartridge was recovered from the scene, and the body has been moved to a morgue in Ajah for an autopsy.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen struck after deliberately hitting Akinloye’s car, attacking him when he exited to inspect the damage. Some speculate that the motive might be linked to disputes over the throne, although this claim has not been independently verified.
A family member, who chose to remain anonymous, described the family’s devastation over the loss. The mood in the palace is somber, with the king and family members currently unavailable for public engagements.
