alleged racist chant – Chelsea Probe Fernandez

France’s football federation (FFF) is filing a complaint with FIFA over a video posted by Argentina player Enzo Fernandez.

The video features Argentina’s team singing a song that the FFF considers “racist and discriminatory” towards France’s players.

Fernandez’s teammate at Chelsea, Wesley Fofana (who has played for France), called the video “blatant racism” on social media. Chelsea is investigating the incident.

Fernandez has apologized, admitting the video contains offensive language and goes against his values.

There is no update on any disciplinary actions from Chelsea as of today, July 17, 2024.

The head of the French Football Federation (FFF), Philippe Diallo, is extremely angry about the racist comments made towards French national team players. He believes these remarks are completely unacceptable and go against the core values of sportsmanship and basic human rights.

Because of the seriousness of this incident, Diallo has decided to take three actions:

  • He directly contacted his counterpart in Argentina’s Football Association to express his disapproval.
  • He filed an official complaint with FIFA, the sport’s governing body.
  • He requested legal action against those who made the racist remarks.

The statement mentions the recent history between France and Argentina in World Cup competitions, but this isn’t directly relevant to the FFF’s condemnation of racism.

It’s important to note that Chelsea, the club Fernandez now plays for, has many French players of color (Black or mixed race) on their first-team squad.
