Walt Disney Company is looking into a potential security breach after a hacking group claiming to champion artists’ rights leaked what they say are thousands of internal messages.
The group, calling itself Nullbulge, alleges they downloaded a massive amount of data, including messages about upcoming Disney projects. The severity of the leak for the media giant remains unclear.
“We’re investigating this matter,” a Disney spokesperson confirmed via email to News-Men
Nullbulge reportedly targets organizations they believe exploit the creative industry through artificial intelligence (AI) generated content, which they consider “stealing.”
Moreso, Newsmen contacted the hackers, who claimed to be Russian, and gained access to Disney’s internal chat system with an insider’s help. However, the hackers didn’t provide any proof of the stolen data, making independent verification difficult.
However, Nullbulge justifies its actions by criticizing Disney’s artist contracts, AI use, and alleged disregard for consumers. They claim they leaked the data because Disney wouldn’t stop using AI as demanded.
Hackers typically prioritize financial gain through extortion, so Nullbulge’s self-proclaimed “ethical” hacking of Russian origin is quite unusual.
