Healthcare delivery in Nigeria set for transformation – MedServe

Advanced Medical Services Limited (MedServe), fully owned by the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), has launched the first phase of its healthcare expansion program, which aims to establish 23 diagnostic centers across Nigeria. This phase also includes setting up three additional oncology centers and seven catheterization laboratories, covering all six geopolitical zones in the country.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi State and was attended by key figures such as NSIA’s MD/CEO, Aminu Umar-Sadiq, MedServe’s MD, Dr. Tolulope Adewole, and Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed, along with other senior government officials.

The first phase of the project targets 10 locations for the new diagnostics and oncology centers, including Bauchi, Enugu, Kaduna, Sokoto, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Kwara, Plateau, and Yobe states. MedServe will leverage its experience from managing three existing projects: the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre in Lagos, the NSIA-Kano Diagnostic Centre, and the NSIA-Umuahia Diagnostic Centre.

At the ceremony, Umar-Sadiq highlighted the groundbreaking event as the result of five years of resilience and dedication. He stated, “We have perfected the business model in terms of governance structure, pricing, recruitment and training of key personnel, and the patient experience.” He further added, “We commit to commissioning and operationalizing these centers within 12 to 15 months.”

Dr. Tolulope Adewole, MD of MedServe, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing oncology care through the creation of additional oncology centers and strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and equipment manufacturers to improve patient outcomes.

Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health & Social Welfare, praised NSIA’s vision and stated, “About 12 months from now, the centres will be ready to deliver qualitative service across Nigeria. This is the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria.”

Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, also expressed his admiration for MedServe’s swift mobilization of resources and partners, noting, “I have been impressed by the pace with which MedServe has mobilized Original Equipment Manufacturers, service providers, technical partners, and other stakeholders to actualize the healthcare expansion programme.”
